Cantilever beam with full-span UDL.

Calculate the fixed-end shear and hogging moment, free-end rotation, and elastic deflection for a uniform load over the complete cantilever.

read the result

See how distributed load accumulates toward the wall.

Every slice of the UDL contributes to the fixed-end action. The free end carries no internal moment, but it carries the maximum elastic deflection and rotation.

Governing equations

For uniform load w over length L, Vfixed = wL and the internal fixed-end moment is -wL2/2. The free-end deflection is wL4/(8EI), and the free-end rotation is wL3/(6EI).

Deflection is not a strength result.

The calculated movement is an elastic beam-theory response. It is not an allowable-deflection decision, and it does not include shear deformation or any effects from a flexible connection.

Keep it as an elastic load-case screen.

  • The left end is fixed and the right end is free.
  • The UDL covers the complete member and acts vertically downward.
  • Check section stress, shear, self-weight, lateral stability, serviceability criteria, and code requirements separately.
  • This is elastic analysis, not cantilever design.
